What: A Village for a Day
Youth-serving collaboration is, in part, about co-creating environments that build youth confidence and competence through structured support. For the day, we create a village environment. Expert speakers kick off each session block for the whole village; then participants move into various neighborhoods to explore together the session theme in smaller groups through facilitated conversations and diverse styles of interactive techniques.
Attending Virtually? You’ll have live stream access to opening, Kickstart, and wrap up sessions. Following each Kickstart, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with a national audience of practitioners, community leaders and researchers, learn activities that you can use in your own work, and dive deeper into theories and questions underlying driving topics!
IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO COLLABORATE FOR CHANGE!
Welcome to the 2026 Against the Current Knowledge Exchange. We’re excited to invite you to a series of sessions designed to spark meaningful dialogue and collaboration. Each session will begin with a dynamic front-of-the-room (or front-of-screen, if joining virtually!) experience, then transition into interactive “neighbourhood” conversations where participants can explore ideas through multiple lenses:
Sessions will be intergenerational, supported by youth representatives, speakers from across Canada, and interdisciplinary partners from the Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement.
We will capture the conversations in the various neighbourhoods throughout the day. Below, see conversations from Against the Current 2025 event highlighting key themes and quotes. Navigate the different slides to reveal the evolution of last year's collective Youth Neighbourhood Village.
